Introducing a fully funded activities grant for community providers that helps address resident loneliness, especially among those who typically don’t participate! 

Java Group Programs are the first standardized peer support groups designed for senior living to address the critical rates of loneliness and depression. The Java Project, a peer-support approach using three evidence-based programs - Java Music, Java Memory, and Java Mentors - fosters connection, purpose, and emotional support among residents. These programs are already in use at over 2,000 organizations across the U.S. and Canada, with published research showing reductions in loneliness and depression.

Interested providers are invited to learn about supporting this group Civil Money Penalty Reimbursement (CMP) grant application. Participation requires only a one-page letter of support that about 10 minutes to complete.

What to Know:

• The Java Project is the implementation of Java Group Programs, which consist of 3 evidence-based peer support groups, called the Java Music, Java Memory and Java Mentors, that directly address loneliness: see The Power of Peer Support. These programs have been implemented in over 2000 organizations across the US and Canada.
• The Java programs are facilitated by your activity staff. Java Group Programs provides all the program materials and the 1.5-hour online training.
• Peer reviewed published Java studies show significant drops in loneliness (12-15%) and depression (30%), and a 60% increase in activity participation: The Science Behind Java
• This state grant covers 100% of the cost, and your staff keep the program materials after the grant period concludes. Program materials include facilitator step-by-step guides, group manuals with 52 themes, photographs, quotes, a talking stick, 8 CDs of licensed songs, a singing bowl, songbooks, training for dementia, and more.
• It is easy for you to take part! All you need to do is fill out a one-page 'letter of support' that takes 10 minutes to complete, and return it by March 31, 2026.
