Nursing Home Preceptors are critical to mentoring the next generation of Administrators and facilitating quality education to prepare AITs for real-world practice as a leader in aging services. Learn about Preceptor Practices, including AIT program requirements, AIT Quarterly Report checklist, and the Domains of Practice Quarterly checklist.

This virtual preceptor refresher meets the requirements of the Board of Nursing Home Administrators, as set forth in Rule 64B10-16.0025, F.A.C.

Learning Objectives

  1. Review teaching techniques, improve concepts of mentorship
  2. Identify AIT program requirements, understand analysis of expectations and needs of AITs and preceptors
  3. Identify nursing home domains of practice

Audience
This educational workshop is appropriate for Nursing Home Administrators seeking to maintain their status as AIT Preceptors in Florida.

Instructor
Michael Buxton, MHSA, NHA, FL-AL Admin

Michael Buxton received his MHSA from the University of Central Florida, where he was a four-year scholar-athlete. A licensed Nursing Home Administrator, Michael currently serves as the Director of Operations for John Knox Village of Central Florida, overseeing the day-to-day operations of the organization's healthcare lines of business. Newsweek has rated John Knox Village of Central Florida's Nursing Home as the best 150-bed+ nursing home in the State of Florida. Michael worked through the Florida NHA preceptor plan as a student, became a preceptor himself, and has been a licensed nursing home administrator for over ten years. Michael qualifies as an expert witness and Florida Department of Health expert reviewer.

Contact Hours
LeadingAge Southeast is providing up to 2 contact hours of distance learning continuing education credit for nursing home administrators  licensed in Florida. Contact hours will be posted to CEBroker within 30 days of the program date.

Scholarships
The Scott Boord Career Development Scholarship Program gives members an opportunity to attend Aging Services programs and education events for those that otherwise would be unable to participate because of financial limitations. Scholarships are awarded to members who meet certain criteria. To find the guidelines and application, please click here.

Cancellations/Refunds/Substitutions
There is a $50 administrative fee for each cancellation or refund. Substitutions will be accepted at no additional fee. Due to costs incurred related to the workshop, no refunds will be issued after Friday, June 5, 2026. All cancellations and substitution requests must be submitted in writing to kmccloud@leadingagesoutheast.org.
