Fair Housing in Action for Home and Community Based Services THURSDAY, JULY 30, 2026 11:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. ET/10:30 a.m. - 11:30 a.m. CT Webinar Fair housing issues can seem very abstract until a complaint, investigation, or lawsuit forces the issue. Yet everyday operational decisions from how services are marketed to how care transitions, transfers, and discharges are handled can create significant legal exposure for providers. As communities expand supportive offerings such as home health, personal care, transportation, meal delivery, respite services, and emergency response, the lines between service coordination and fair housing risk become increasingly complex.
This session takes a practical look at how fair housing laws apply in real operational settings. Through a review of current regulations, recent case examples, and realistic scenarios providers face every day, participants will explore high-risk areas including marketing practices, resident screening, transfers to higher levels of care, and eviction or discharge actions.
Attendees will leave with actionable strategies to identify prohibited versus permissible inquiries, assess marketing and communication practices for compliance concerns, and train staff to navigate resident interactions consistently and confidently under the Fair Housing Act.
Learning Outcomes: - Identify what types of inquiries are allowable and prohibited under the Fair Housing Act.
- Audit marketing materials and practices to determine possible liability concerns with the Fair Housing Act.
- Strategize how to train marketing staff on presenting community information in a consistent manner in compliance with the Fair Housing Act.
