LeadingAge Southeast Fair Housing Certificate Fair Housing Practitioner TUESDAY, MARCH 10 - WEDNESDAY, MARCH 11, 2026 10 a.m. - 12 p.m. ET/9 a.m. - 11 a.m. CT BOTH DAYS Virtual Training 4 hours of instruction, includes exam and certificate In the complex landscape of accommodations for residents, understanding the nuances between Emotional Support Animals (ESAs), service animals, and the legal implications involved is paramount to avoid costly violations. While pets may not be allowed in certain areas, ESAs and service animals might require different consideration under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) or the federal Fair Housing Act. This extends to charging fees for accommodations.
Investing in staff training to navigate these complexities correctly from the outset is not only prudent, but also significantly less expensive than legal fees resulting from ADA or Fair Housing Act violations. Don't risk lawsuits; join industry experts as they share best practices and cover the intersection between the ADA, Fair Housing, and resident services in this comprehensive live virtual training.
This live instruction webinar covers the basics of understanding various fair housing laws and the regulations surrounding it. This is great for beginners and those who are relatively new to occupancy-centered career roles and need an understanding of how the laws affect day-to-day interactions with residents. This is appropriate for new hires, or people who have been in occupancy centered roles for less than 3 years.
By
the end of the course, attendees will be better equipped to apply fair
housing requirements consistently, defensibly, and in alignment with
both regulatory expectations and resident needs. This course will cover: - Fair Housing Fundamentals
- Disabilities, Part 1 – Reasonable Accommodations, Fair Housing Law, ADA, Section 504, HUD Regulations, parking, & more
- Disabilities, Part 2 – Assistance/Service Animals, hoarding, & more
- Fair Housing for Maintenance – Dealing with vendors, harassment, dealing with residents, & more
