“Advocacy in Action day provides LeadingAge Florida members a chance to meet face to face with Florida’s political leadership and advocate in a concerted way with state government officials. This year’s event will showcase LeadingAge Florida’s recent investments in our advocacy and public policy efforts, as well as in grassroots development. I hope you will accept this invitation to “Be the Difference,” as you fight for your community and residents. I look forward to seeing you in Tallahassee at Advocacy in Action workshop on February 9 &10.”
— Steve Bahmer, President & CEO, LeadingAge Florida
A number of critical issues will be in play during the 2016 legislative session – including a potential overhaul of the Medicaid reimbursement system for nursing homes – as well as improvements in the Gold Seal program for our CCRC members, and the ongoing debate over the proper use of Sadowski funds for our affordable housing members.
Now, as much as ever, we need you to participate in our Advocacy in Action day so lawmakers hear directly from you about these critically important issues! There is strength in numbers, and your participation is an essential show of force from LeadingAge Florida members promoting our principles regarding Medicaid Reimbursement for nursing homes and CCRCs and funding for affordable housing.
LeadingAge Florida’s Advocacy in Action day gives you the opportunity to:
- Tell key legislators and their staff about the very real harm an alternative Medicaid reimbursement plan would have on your community and, most importantly, your residents
- Support the expansion of prescribing authority for ARNPs in nursing homes, so you are able to provide the right level of care for your residents, at the right time
- Tell your story about the need for legislators to spend Sadowski Trust funds as they were intended – to ensure access to affordable housing for Florida seniors
- Learn from LeadingAge Florida’s new lobbying team about how to most effectively advocate on behalf of your communities and your residents
- Hear firsthand from key state agency heads about upcoming challenges and opportunities for all members
Legislators need to hear from you so they understand, promote, and protect the programs and services your communities provide for Florida’s seniors. Your credibility as an industry expert and as a provider makes you an ideal advocate for your community and the seniors you serve!
Also, plan to join us for a remarkable lunch at the Governors Club where the Who’s Who of the State of Florida meets to make deals and plan strategy. After a briefing from LeadingAge Florida's Vice President of Advocacy Susan Langston, we will head to the Capitol to make sure the collective voice of LeadingAge Florida is heard. We will make sure you have all the background and talking points you need to be effective.
