BE THE VOICE at our 52nd Annual Convention & Exposition – LeadingAge Florida invites you to attend our 52nd Annual Convention and Exposition on June 29 – July 2, at the beautiful Gaylord Palms Resort and Convention Center in Kissimmee. In short, LeadingAge Florida provides one of the most dynamic and comprehensive opportunities for meeting with fellow professionals and keeping abreast of current developments in our field.
In addition to the many educational sessions in your area of specialization, there will be many social events where you can meet friends and network with colleagues. The Gaylord Palms Resort & Convention Center has many fun things for the family to do while you are in sessions. This tropical paradise has beautiful pools on the property, plus specialty shops and restaurants set in an air-conditioned courtyard space with winding paths lined with palm trees that make you believe you are outdoors. The only thing left outdoors is the heat, so you can shop to your hearts content.
During the convention you will find a variety of educational sessions to expand your knowledge, along with exhibitors and sponsors to assist you with your operational needs, and networking events to help you relax and connect with friends and colleagues! Important Information:
•Your credentials envelope will be mailed to you prior to the convention. It will contain your official name badges (designating your registration type) allowing you to enter sessions, meals, exhibits, and social events appropriate to your registration. It will include any extra event tickets purchased.
•Additional meal or event tickets are available prior to the Convention and onsite.
•Electronic copies of all presentations will be provided by a link from which you can download two weeks prior to the Convention.
•A Convention Program will be available onsite at the LeadingAge Florida Registration Desk.
•Business casual dress and comfortable shoes are recommended. (The walk to the convention center is much shorter than last year.)
•Wireless Internet access is available in guest rooms, meeting rooms and common areas free of charge.
•Bring lots of business cards for the Exposition. Please make sure you visit the Exhibit Hall and engage the many vendors who have invested much to make your Convention as useful as possible for you.
•Contribute to the Scott Boord Career Development Scholarship Fund by donating cash or Silent Auction items, bidding on those items or buying Mulligans at the Annual Golf Tournament. To use your community’s tax exempt status, please provide a copy of your tax exempt form upon check in at the hotel. Payment must be made by using a check or credit card that has the name of the community listed. Self-parking at the hotel is $10 plus tax; valet parking is $18 plus tax.
Agency for Health Care Administration Issues 13 Certificates of Need to Nursing Home Bed Applicants – On March 18, The Agency for Health Care Administration (Agency) recently gave the green light and issued Certificates of Need (CON) to 13 applicants for new nursing home beds that were unchallenged.
Projected to create approximately 800 full time jobs, the newly approved CON applicants will have 18 months from the issued date to start construction of the proposed projects.
“Today we are announcing the creation of 762 new nursing home beds across the state. This represents a significant upgrade to Florida’s long-term care infrastructure to meet the needs of our elders for decades to come,” said Agency Secretary Elizabeth Dudek. “It is also a boost to Florida’s economy
with the creation of hundreds of new jobs for nursing home staff and a green light to the spending of millions of dollars to construct these new projects.”

Florida Senior Day: Strength in Numbers, Strength in Action! – Join the Department of Elder Affairs and United Way of Florida at the State Capitol in Tallahassee for free food, entertainment, exhibitors and health screenings to celebrate Florida seniors on April 15th.
Florida Senior Day is a collaborative event designed to bring together hundreds of corporate, non-profit, philanthropic, and faith-based organizations to support the full spectrum of services and needs of Florida seniors and their families. Private partnerships with leading corporations, foundations, non-profit, state, and faith-based organizations are essential to the success of Florida Senior Day and ensures that seniors will have the opportunity and the platform to have their voices heard at the State Capitol.

It’s FUN for EVERYONE and raises money for the Scott Boord Scholarship Fund.

The Scott Boord Career Development Scholarship Program provides staff from LeadingAge Florida member communities with an opportunity to attend either a LeadingAge Florida or LeadingAge educational event held throughout the year. 2015 Exposition Booth Registration is Now Open – We are pleased to provide you with the opportunity for you to present to retirement housing and long-term care professionals, your products and services at our Annual Convention —an excellent and cost effective way to obtain new clients and be recognized.
The Exposition will be held on Tuesday, June 30 and Wednesday, July 1, 2015, at the Gaylord Palms Resort and Convention Center in Florida.
