LeadingAge Southeast Joins State Affiliates & Attorneys General in Lawsuit to Overturn CMS Staffing Mandate

A total of 19 LeadingAge state affiliates, membership associations that represent hundreds of mission-driven aging services providers across the country, have joined a lawsuit with 20 Attorneys General to overturn the Centers for Medicaid and Medicare Services’ (CMS) staffing mandate. Filed by the Attorneys General from Iowa, Kansas, and South Carolina on behalf of LeadingAge Iowa, LeadingAge Kansas, and LeadingAge South Carolina, and other state affiliates, in the United States District Court’s Northern District of Iowa, the complaint intends to overturn the mandate itself and vacate certain of the more onerous requirements in the rule. Read More...

LeadingAge Southeast Commends Governor DeSantis for Approving Significant Funding for Florida's Older Adults

LeadingAge Southeast lauds Governor DeSantis for his approval of the state’s budget that includes substantial funding for key programs and services crucial to the well-being of Florida’s older adults.

"We are incredibly grateful to Governor DeSantis and the Florida legislature for their commitment to ensure Florida’s older adults have access to the services, care and support they need,” said Steve Bahmer, LeadingAge Southeast President & CEO. “The Medicaid rate increase, in particular, will be helpful to our nursing homes to hire additional staff or further enhance operational efficiencies. Additionally, the ongoing support for Alzheimer's disease, nursing education, home and community-based services, and the full funding of the Sadowski Housing Trust Funds demonstrate a comprehensive approach to addressing the diverse needs of our aging population." LeadingAge Southeast Applauds Legislature for Prioritizing Support for Older Adults in Budget Allocation

Following the passage of a $117.46 billion state budget that marked the end of Florida’s 2024 Legislative Session, LeadingAge Southeast issued a statement commending the Legislature for the significant funding of key programs and services for Florida’s older adults.

"We are immensely grateful to the legislature and their collaborative efforts that resulted in a budget that not only addresses immediate needs, but also builds upon a solid foundation for the future of elder care in our state,” said Susan Langston, LeadingAge Southeast Vice President of Advocacy. “From nursing homes, assisted living facilities, home and community based services, to affordable senior housing and workforce, these investments reflect a commitment to sustaining programs and services that provide high quality care for Florida’s older adults as they age across the continuum.” Read More...

LeadingAge Florida Expands Across Gulf Coast, Creates Regional Association: LeadingAge Southeast

LeadingAge Florida announced today the completion of its second merger since 2023, this time with LeadingAge Gulf States, bringing the organizations together to serve senior living providers across Florida, Alabama, Louisiana, and Mississippi.

The new regional association will continue to be headquartered in Tallahassee but operate under a new name and brand – LeadingAge Southeast.

“We are thrilled to welcome our newest members to the association,” said Steve Bahmer, LeadingAge Southeast President and CEO. “A growing population of older adults means a greater need for a robust portfolio of high-quality retirement options.
